Summary

 

The Cirrus Dashboard brings the power and flexibility of Springbrook Analytics into the application you use every day. This new Dashboard provides:

  • Direct connection to the Springbrook Analytics reporting database to ensure your data is accurate and timely.

  • A set of useful Dashboard panels that are ready to go immediately, with more in development for future releases.

  • An intuitive drag-and-drop grid layout that allows complete control over which data panels are displayed and how they are organized.

  • Filtering options controlled at the user level so Dashboard panels can be set up to meet the data needs of each individual user.

  • Optional customization of the Dashboard views so your Springbrook Analytics users can build new views based on existing Dashboard panels.

 

 

Step by Step

 

1     Open the Cirrus Dashboard. 

 

  • Open the Cirrus Dashboard window (SS> Dashboard> Dashboard).
  • The Dashboard will display all the Springbrook Analytics Tableau view panels that have been already added.
  • Dashboard panels will only display analytics data if the current user has the appropriate Springbrook Analytics permissions. If you do not have the appropriate permissions, the dashboard panel will display "Cirrus Dashboard requires a Springbrook Analytics Tableau Account in order to display data panels. 2     Add a new Dashboard panel. 

 

  • Click the Add Panel button to add a new panel to the dashboard. This will open the Add a Panel pane on the right.
  • The Source toggles are used to select where the dashboard view will be pulled from.
    • Select Standard to use a standard Springbrook Analytics Tableau view for the dashboard panel.
      • The standard Springbrook Analytics views are stored in the Dashboard Components folder (Tableau> Explore> Dashboard Components). These views cannot be edited outside of the standard filtering and renaming functions.
    • Select User Defined to use a Springbrook Analytics Tableau view that has been edited and copied to the Agency folder for the dashboard panel.
  • The View field will populate with the available views in the selected Source folder. Click the drop-down and select the view for the dashboard panel.
    • The available views are organized under bold headings that correspond the Tableau workbooks where those views are stored. For example, the Accounts with Budget view is under the GL Dashboard Components heading. GL Dashboard Components is a Tableau workbook in the Dashboard Components folder (Tableau> Explore> Dashboard Components> GL Dashboard Components).

  • Click the Add button to add the new panel to the top-left corner of the dashboard.
  • You can add as many panels to the dashboard as you would like. Click the Close button on the Add a Panel pane once you have added all the desired panels.

 

3     Arrange and edit the Dashboard panels. 

 

  • Dashboard panels are based on a grid system that is six grid spaces wide.
  • You can rearrange your dashboard panels hovering over the panel header until your mouse cursor changes to a directional cursor. Then simply drag and drop the panel to a new location on the dashboard grid. The other panels will automatically rearrange based on their size and shape.
  • You can resize your dashboard panels by hovering over the lower-right corner of the panel, clicking the Resize button , and dragging the panel to the desired size and shape.
    • The panel being resized will display a blue border until the size is set.
    • Because Cirrus is a browser-based application, and some browsers behave differently than other when interacting with graphical elements, some users may need to click on the Dashboard grid outside of the panel being resized in order to lock the panel in place.
  • Click the Edit button in the panel header to change the panel's displayed name.
  • Once a new name has been entered, click the Save button to complete the update.
  • Click the Delete button to remove a panel from the Dashboard. This will only remove the panel from the current dashboard. The panel will still be available in the View drop-down and can be added back to the Dashboard at a later time.

 

4     Interact with the data displayed in the panel. 

 

  • Many standard Dashboard panels provide filters allowing for more control over what data is displayed. For example, the Revenue vs. Expense view allows you to filter by ALFRE and Fiscal Year.

  • Use the drop-down fields to change the filter parameters of the panel.
    • As with Springbrook Analytics views, Dashboard panels will automatically update when filter settings are changed. If the panel is displaying a large amount of data, each filter selection can take a second or two to update and display. If this delay is problematic, you can pause the panel with the Pause button . Once you have made your filter changes, use the Resume button to refresh the panel and display the data with your new filter parameters in place.
  • While many panels include an All toggle in the filter drop-down, you can also click the Show All button above the filter field to quickly select all the filter options.
  • The down arrow above the filter field is used to toggle between Include and Exclude for the filter field.
    • The default selection is Include. The panel will include any data for the selected filters. If Exclude is selected, the selected filters will be excluded displayed with a strikethrough.
  • The View button is used to select the view for the panel.
    • When a panel is first added to the Dashboard, the original view will be used by default. After editing the view by changing the filter parameters, the View button will display an asterisk. You can click the View button to save the edited view and to set it as the default view the next time you open the Dashboard.
  • The Share button is used copy a link to the current panel view. This link can then be shared with other users. Only users with the appropriate permissions will be able to access the view.
  • The Download button is used to download an image, data, or document file that includes the panel view information.
